Dear Parents,
Wow, what a super turnout to our 2007-08 Back-to- School Night. It was great to see the support that Chipman students enjoy from their parents. We are fortunate to have the backing of our community. Thank you again for demonstrating your support by coming. Also, thanks to all who helped make it a great night.
Speaking of our great school…I’d like to take just a moment to point out an observation that I made concerning this fantastic school. Did you know that 900 students now call Chipman "their" school? Did you know that on a daily basis over 50 employees (both certificated and classified) call Chipman "their" school? Here is the good part… Did you know that the 33 teachers who work here volunteer for over 50 (and counting) extra-duty assignments and activities throughout the year? (These activities include such things as: coaching after-school sports, ITSA tutoring, migrant tutoring, mentoring to new teachers, club advisors, extra yard duty, committee chairs and members, etc.). Clearly, our teachers are the backbone of the extra offerings that benefit your students. Parents, if you get a chance, please join me in thanking our teachers and tell them you appreciate their extra efforts. Chipman would be most ordinary without them.

Do the Math has started its
sixth season of helping
students solve and understand
math concepts. The program
airs every Tuesday and
Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
on Bright House Channel 15, and
Suddenlink Channel 20. The program
helps students understand math concepts by working out
problems step by step with the student.
Free math help is available by calling the tutors, during
the hours of 3:30-5:30 pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays,
at 636-HELP (636-4357) or toll free 1-866-636-6284.

Dear Parents,
We would like to encourage you to talk with your child about their day at school and what they have learned. They will appreciate your interest and you may see an improvement in their attitude at home as well as at school.
Another important factor for success at school is coming to school on time and prepared. All students need to be at school by 7:37 a.m. with a binder, paper, pen, and pencil. Students who come prepared daily have a greater chance at being successful than those students who do not.

Constitution Testing
The Constitution test assesses mastery of the most important aspects of the study of the Constitution and will prepare our students for the standards that will later be assessed on the California State Test (CST). The test is given to all eighth grade students and remains a requirement for graduation participation. Because the Constitution test is consistent throughout the district, a student’s passing grade at one school will be accepted at any BCSD school if the student should transfer after taking the test during the eighth grade year. A passing grade is considered seventy percent of fifty multiple-choice questions, or thirty-five or greater correct answers. Chipman students will have completed five weeks of classroom instruction to prepare them for the Constitution test scheduled the third week of October. Study at home is critical for your student’s success on this test.

GRADUATION PARTICIPATION POLICY
Principals may include students for the graduation exercises according to the following:
Attendance
No more than 19 days of willful/intentional absence from school
Behavior
If not suspended or excluded at the end of the school year.
Academic
Eighth-grade cumulative G.P.A. at or above 2.0 average for the 1st semester and 2nd semester monitoring. (Students below a 2.0 G.P.A. will be on a non-participation list.)

Increíble, qué buena asistencia tuvimos en nuestra noche de regreso a clases 2007-08. Fue magnífico ver el apoyo que los estudiantes de la Escuela Chipman disfrutan de sus padres. Somos afortunadas de tener el apoyo de nuestra comunidad. Gracias otra vez por demostrar su apoyo asistiendo a la noche de regreso a clases. También, gracias a todas las personas que ayudaron haciendo de ésta una gran noche.
Hablando de nuestra magnífica escuela…me gustaría tomar un momento para mencionar una observación que hice con respecto a esta fantástica escuela. ¿Sabían ustedes que 900 estudiantes ahora llaman a la Escuela Chipman "su" escuela? ¿Sabían ustedes que diariamente más de 50 empleados (tanto el personal certificado como el clasificado) llaman a la Escuela Chipman "su" escuela? Aquí está la mejor parte… ¿Sabían ustedes que los 33 maestros que trabajan aquí prestan servicio como voluntarios en más de 50 (y la cuenta continúa) asignaciones y actividades extras además de sus responsabilidades durante el año escolar? (Éstas incluyen actividades tales como: ser entrenadores de deportes después de las clases, ofrecer Tutoría de Instrucción para el Logro Académico Estudiantil [ITSA], ofrecer tutoría para los estudiantes del programa migratorio, ofrecer tutoría a los nuevos maestros, ser orientadores de los clubes, ofrecer supervisión extra en el patio de recreo, ser presidentes y miembros de comités, etc.). Claramente, nuestros maestros son el vínculo de los provechos extra que benefician a sus estudiantes. Padres, si tienen la oportunidad, acompáñenme agradeciendo a nuestros maestros y díganles que aprecian sus esfuerzos extras. La Escuela Chipman podría ser más ordinaria sin ellos.

Do the Math ha empezado su sexta temporada

los conceptos de matemáticas. Este programa se
transmite los martes y miércoles de las

Estimados padres:
Nos gustaría recomendarles que hablen con su hijo acerca de su día en la escuela y qué aprendieron. Ellos apreciarán su interés y puede ser que vean un mejoramiento en su actitud en el hogar así como también en la escuela.
Otro factor importante para el éxito en la escuela es llegar a la escuela puntualmente y preparado. Todos los estudiantes necesitan llegar a la escuela no más tarde de las 7:37 a.m. con una carpeta con argollas, papel, pluma y lápiz. Los estudiantes que llegan preparados diariamente tienen la más grande oportunidad de ser exitosos que aquellos estudiantes que no lo hacen.

La Prueba de la Constitución evalúa el dominio de los aspectos más importantes del estudio de la Constitución y preparará a nuestros estudiantes para los estándares que posteriormente serán evaluados en la Prueba de los estándares de California (CST). La prueba es administrada a todos los estudiantes de octavo grado y permanece como un requisito para la participación en la graduación. Debido a que la Prueba de la Constitución es consistente en todo el distrito, las calificaciones satisfactorias de un estudiante en una escuela serán aceptadas en cualquier otra escuela del Distrito Escolar de la Ciudad de Bakersfield (BCSD) si el estudiante debe trasladarse a otra escuela después de tomar la prueba durante el octavo grado. Se considera una calificación satisfactoria si contestan correctamente el setenta por ciento de las cincuenta preguntas de elección múltiple o treinta y cinto o más respuestas correctas. Los estudiantes de la Escuela Chipman han completado cinco semanas de instrucción en el salón de clases para prepararlos para la Prueba de la Constitución programada la tercera semana del mes de octubre. Es crítico estudiar en el hogar para el éxito de su estudiante en esa prueba.
